Write by the Sea
Where food becomes story.
Each month, food journalist and podcaster Gilly Smith meets a group of writers at Kemptown Bookshop in Brighton to explore what writers across all genres can learn from our best food writers.
From Olia Hercules' Strong Roots on family history and international politics, to Ravinder Bhogal's masterclass in place and identity in Comfort and Joy, we'll learn how to use a device like food to tell us so much more than what's on the plate, while Bee Wilson's deep dive into the back-story of an object in The Heart Shaped Tin and Pam Brunton's philosophy, politics and provenance on what we eat in Two Waters: Heritage, landscape and the modern cook can show us where the story starts.
We start on Friday March 13th at 10am-11.30pm upstairs in the cafe where we'll explore Tamar Adler's Feast on Your Life and how mindfulness can access deep though and emotion in your writing.
Each session is £10. Please email gilly@gillysmith.com to book your place.
